Rework - It’s Okay!

II took some time off this week, to focus on writing my second book. Well, that didn’t happen. Instead, my time was focused on some rework on my website and becoming more focused on what I would like my social media platforms to look like. Stay tuned for a future journal entry about my social media journey.

Website Rework

About

When I first put my website together I reviewed the websites of well-known authors to see what they had done. I then took a combination of what I saw and put together my own. That included creating an About page. I don’t know about you, but I don’t generally like to talk about myself. I found this aspect of website creation the most difficult. In the end, I put together something I felt was decent. However, I am grateful for the advice I have received and started to rework it.

As of today, I have rewritten my About page to flow more like a story. I write stories after all. When I sat down to write I thought about; why I love to read, what books or genres influenced my love of reading and ultimately inspired me to write, and what part of my everyday life I transport into my writing. Then I ended it with why I write.

Thinking about all of those aspects of a life as a reader and writer made it relatively easy to put together a story.

I kept my book jacket bio at the bottom of the page as it shows what I have written and includes a few fun facts about me that would not fit into the story.

Recordings

With the launch of The Perilous Road to Her, my schedule is starting to include appearances on podcasts and virtual reading events. It is very exciting to be a part of these new-to-me experiences. I wanted to create a place where people could access all of the recordings I get to do.

Most recently, I joined Carly from the YYCPopcast to talk about “what it was like jumping from a background in finance to writing, tackling dark subject matter for [my] first book, self publishing in the golden age of social media, and what environment is best for creating!”

If you host a podcast, or know someone who does, I would love to connect and get to know you more. The relationships I am building through these endeavors have surpassed my expectations!

Rework - It’s okay

Although doing rework was not how I wanted to spend my vacation, I am grateful I spent my time in that way. I am hopeful that my time will result in a website visitors want to explore.

Yes, it was frustrating to divert from my plan and rework what I had already put together. However, not doing it meant I was not putting my best foot forward. I could miss out on opportunities to interact with readers, podcasters, and writers.

It is through the work and rework that we learn and grow!
